Schaeffer Half Marathon and 10K Trail Run

I’ve got some bad news 🙁  I’m going to cancel this year’s Schaeffer Half Marathon and 10K.  The venue and course at Schaeffer Farms unfortunately do not lend themselves to a socially distant event with staggered start times and finishes.  I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out how to make it work safely, but I just can’t.  For example, the one-lane gravel road entering Button Farm would be very problematic with racers entering and leaving at the same time (because of the staggered starts).  We’d also have trouble with the course with staggered starts because of the first small loop that the half marathoners run.  Normally, we have a course marshal at a main split and it’s easy with a mass start…but with a staggered start over an hour or more, it would be very difficult to tell who goes where.  There is a HUGE risk that racers would go the wrong way.  There are also some issues with runners coming together at the end of the course with staggered start times…and I’m afraid things would feel a bit too “crowded.”

All registered races were given the option to defer or a refund.  If you have any questions, please contact

Schaeffer Course Descriptions

The flowy, fast, and fun trails at Schaeffer Farms are wonderfully maintained and offer twisty single-track, stream crossings, log ramps, several steep hills, and open farm field running. Moderately technical with some rocky and rooty sections, these race courses begin and end in the huge grassy fields of the privately managed Button Farm Living History Center off Black Rock Road.
