VentureQuest AR -Rules

General:

  • © Photo by Will Ramos Photography
  • Racers must be familiar with all information outlined on the EX2 Adventures website and any update emails sent to team captains prior to race weekend.
  • For the purposes of this race, solo racers must follow the same rules and regulations as teams, unless otherwise instructed.
  • Racers must start together, compete together, and finish together.
  • Team members must stay within 100 ft of each other at all times (unless otherwise stated).
  • Checkpoints must be reached in sequential order...CP1, CP2, CP3, unless otherwise instructed!
  • All team members must be present at each checkpoint in order to proceed.
  • An e-punch timing system will be used in this event. At each checkpoint, you will find an e-punch box and be required to ‘e-punch’. The e-punch timing system requires that each team carry a small electronic key. When inserted into the e-punch box, this electronic key will store the time/location at each checkpoint. The data on your e-punch key will be downloaded at the finish line to provide results, CPs found, the order of CPs found, and your split times. You will receive your team-specific e-punch key at check-in. A demonstration of the e-punch system will be provided at check-in.
  • Teams must find all checkpoints. Missed checkpoints will result in disqualification or time penalties.
  • Off-trail travel is permitted.
  • All equipment must be provided by racers or by race officials.
  • Teams may not stage ANY equipment on the course before the race begins.
  • Hydration & Nutrition are the responsibility of each team.
  • GPS or positioning devices are NOT permitted.
  • Portable music players or any device that requires the use of earphones is NOT permitted
  • The use of motorized vehicles during the race is NOT permitted.
  • Traveling on roads outside of park property is NOT permitted.
  • SAFETY: Racers must wear close-toed shoes at all times during the race.
  • SAFETY: Teams that drop out of the race MUST check in with race officials.
  • The race director may change the rules at any time.

Mountain Biking:

  • Teams may bike on any trail and any paved or upaved roads, within the park ONLY.
  • Each racer is limited to the use of a single bicycle.
  • Bicycles will not be inspected by race officials for mechanical worthiness.
  • Racers may receive help with mechanical difficulties from other racers. No other outside help is permitted.
  • SAFETY: Racers must obey all traffic laws while on the paved roads within the park. Ride on the shoulder with the flow of traffic. Use extreme caution.
  • SAFETY: Travel on roads outside of park property is not permitted and is grounds for team disqualification.
  • SAFETY: Racers must wear a CPSC, ANSI, or SNELL certified bicycling helmet at all times while on a bike.

Paddling: (Canoes for teams, kayaks for solo racers)

  • You may not use your own canoe, paddles, or PFDs (Personal Flotation Device).

Grounds for team disqualification/penalties:

  • Loss of your team’s e-punch ($40 charge for lost e-punch)

  • Handing off or discarding any equipment during the race.
  • Littering.
  • Lack of respect for other racers, volunteers, equipment, or environment - this will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis and is at the discretion of the race director.
  • SAFETY: Failure to wear bike helmet while biking. Failure to wear a PFD while paddling.
  • SAFETY: Loss of a team member for any reason!
