Fall Backyard Burn Wraps at Hemlock this Sun!

The sixth and final race of the 2015 Fall Backyard Burn Trail Running Series and the final race of our 16th season will take place this coming Sunday, November 29th at Hemlock Overlook in Clifton, VA.  This beautiful and challenging course consists mostly of rocky and root strewn hiking trails, old dirt roads, and open fields.  Competitors will run along Historic Bull Run, up some demanding hills, and across a few streams.

This race is sold out and registration is closed but you can still enjoy the day and help make it all happen by volunteering at this event.  Volunteers help with check-in, aid stations, course marshaling, timing, food distribution, course sweeping and course demarking. Times vary from 7am-11:30am and shifts are usually 2-4 hours.  Volunteers receive free food, a cool race t-shirt, $15 off a future EX2 race or $5 off EX2 merchandise, and our sincere appreciation. Plus, volunteering at EX2 races is fun!

Trail Runners Enjoy Running Through Former Lorton Prison Complex!

In the grassy ‘Quad’, adjacent to repurposed jail cells and abandoned guard towers of the former Lorton Prison complex, close to 300 racers toed the line yesterday at the fourth race of the 2015 Fall Backyard Burn Trail Running Series.  Gloomy morning drizzle created damp conditions for the athletes as they negotiated a fast and fun course which included a mixture of forested and open meadow single-track.  It as an excellent day of trail running action!

Thanks to all the racers, volunteers, sponsors, the Fairfax County Park Authority, and the Workhouse Arts Center for helping to make this race a wonderful success.

Results are now posted.   Photos are coming soon.

Our next FBYB race is on November 15th at Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, VA.  This is one of the more technical and challenging courses in the series and consists mostly of hiking trails (including the Bull Run Occoquan Trail), horse trails, and old dirt roads.  This race has filled up for the last several years so register today to guarantee your spot on the starting line.
