Trail Runners Descend on Rosaryville’s Awesome Trails this Sunday!

The countdown is on for the second annual Rosaryville Off-Road Half Marathon and 10K this Sunday, March 29th at 9am.  We ran the course yesterday morning and it’s in EXCELLENT condition.  This race course is beautiful and winds through mixed hardwood forests and fields. The trails are twisty, fast, and relatively smooth and flat, offering perfect terrain for a trail race at the beginning of the season.  This race was a new addition in 2014 and it was an instant hit!

There is still time to sign up for this race but online registration closes at midnight tonight, 3/25.  Race day registration on site WILL BE available.

You are going to love this race!  Join us for an awesome day of trail running action.

Trail Runners Enjoy Running Through Former Lorton Prison Complex!

In the ‘Yard’, under abandoned guard towers of the former Lorton Prison complex, close to 300 racers toed the line yesterday at the second race of the 2015 Spring Backyard Burn Trail Running Series.  Athletes were treated to brilliant sunshine and perfect trail conditions as they negotiated a fast and fun course which included a mixture of forested and open meadow single-track.  It as an excellent day of trail running action!

Thanks to all the racers, volunteers, sponsors, the Fairfax County Park Authority, and the Workhouse Arts Center for helping to make this race a wonderful success.

Results are now posted.   Photos are coming soon.

Our next SBYB race is on April 4th at Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, VA.  This is one of the more technical and challenging courses in the series and consists mostly of hiking trails (including the Bull Run Occoquan Trail), horse trails, and old dirt roads.  This race has filled up for the last several years so register today to guarantee your spot on the starting line.

Challenging and Slippery Hemlock BYB Kicks Off the 2015 EX2 Season!

Spirits were high yesterday as just over 200 athletes tested themselves on a fun and technical Backyard Burn course at Hemlock Overlook in Clifton, VA.  Residual snow, recent rains, and freeze/thaw conditions created slippery conditions which only added to the challenge and fun factor.  Congratulations to all racers that braved the elements.

A big thank you to all racers, volunteers, sponsors, and the park authority for helping to make it all happen.  It was an excellent day of trail running action and a great kick-off to the 2015 EX2 season.

Results are now posted.  Photos are coming soon.

Mother Nature Packs a Punch - SBYB @ FH Postponed to Sat, 4/4!

Mother Nature isn’t done yet.  The 4-8 inches of wet heavy snow we are predicted to receive today combined with the 1-3 inches of snow and ice currently on the ground spells big time safety issues for a trail running race.  So, the Backyard Burn race scheduled for this Sunday at Fountainhead has been postponed to SATURDAY, 4/4/15 at 9am.   Click here to learn more.

The good news is that warmer and drier weather is forecasted to return this coming week, just in time for the new SBYB kick-off race at Hemlock on Sunday, 3/15/15.  And, all the transfers and credits from the first snow induced Hemlock postponement opened up plenty of space in the race.  So, come join the fun - register today
