Bushwhacker Adventure Running Race

Tuesday May 6, 2008
Trail Runners will LOVE the Bushwhacker!

The Bushwhacker Adventure Running Races are coming up on May 18th and June 1st? This is a completely new and unique race type combining trail running and navigation. You pick your route to the finish! Simply stay on the well marked trail that connects the start and the finish or try to save time/mileage by bushwhacking off-trail using the clear, accurate, and colorful map that we provide.

The streamside terrain between Hemlock and Fountainhead is stunningly beautiful and it is right in our backyard, in Western Fairfax County only 30 minutes from downtown DC. The linear 10 mile course is super fun and includes no overlap or loops and minimal pavement. Park and take the optional shuttle from the finish to the start and we will even transport your gear bag and car keys from the start to the finish.

These races are fully supported with aid stations every 1.5-3.5 miles, post race food/pizza, awards, sweet technical tees (cotton feel and microfiber moisture transport technology), limited race entry, professional race operations, wonderful volunteer support, medical support, accurate results, and timely posting of results on the EX2 website.

What are you waiting for? A new type of adventure is right around the corner!

Adventure Racers Face The Challenge At Rocky Gap!

Close to 500 adventure racers challenged themselves this past weekend at beautiful Rocky Gap State Park in Western Maryland.  On Saturday, novice adventure racers pushed their limits in the Greenhorn AR, a demanding 14 mile course filled with canoeing, trekking, mountain biking, swimming/tubing, and plenty of decision making.  It was inspiring to watch so many new adventure racers accept and overcome the challenge!

Sunday’s Rocky Gap Adventure Race involved less strategic decision making than the Greenhorn AR but required tons of endurance and good navigation skills.  The race was scouted at 24 miles, our longest and most grueling Rocky Gap AR to date.  Despite the tough terrain, steep climbs, and long miles racers were all smiles when closing the finish line.  What an awesome accomplishment!

Results for the Greenhorn AR are now posted.

Blistering Times Produced At The Spring BYB Finale!

Just over 300 racers enjoyed crisp spring temperatures and sunny skies yesterday at the final race of the Spring Backyard Burn Trail Running Series.  Racers posted some blistering times as they sped along the mostly flat, blue bell strewn trails at Wakefield.  It was a great day of trail running action.  Thanks to all the racers, volunteers, sponsors, and park authorities for helping to make this series so much fun and a wonderful success!

Results are now posted.  Photos are now online!

Remember, the new Bushwhacker Adventure Running Races are coming up on May 18th and June 1st.  In these races you choose your route from start to finish, which is approximately 10 miles.  Follow the existing Bull Run-Occoquan Trail and/or save time/mileage by bushwhacking sections of the terrain using the map we provide.  Expert navigation ability is NOT required for these events as the main trail is well marked and is easily followed.  Register today to join in the fun!
