2015 EX2 Race Calendar NOW POSTED!

Heading into our 16th year producing excellent experiences, we are giddy with excitement about our lineup of 19 action-packed races and look forward to another year filled with adventure, challenge, and fun!

The 2015 EX2 race calendar is now online, registration will open soon, and the 2015 website will go live within the next few days.

Race highlights for 2015:

  • Return of the Rocky Gap Adventure Race - new format and new checkpoints – racers are going to LOVE it!
  • Bringing back the Blue Crab Bolt Trail Running Series – to beat the heat and avoid family vacations, we are moving the BCB races from July/Aug to May/June.  We are also adding a 5K option to each race.
  • Laurel Hill BYB race will start and finish in the ‘yard’ of the old Lorton Prison complex, currently the site of the Workhouse Arts Center.  The course has also been redesigned and will include sweet single-track and no road crossings!
  • Riverbend BYB race – beautiful new venue right on the Potomac River, adjacent to Great Falls National Park.
  • Of course, the favorites remain on the calendar - Hemlock, Fountainhead, Rosaryville, Lake Fairfax, Wakefield, Prince William Forest Park – we will visit each at least once this year.
  • We are adding a 60+ age group to all trail running races!
  • As most of you know, the Cranky Monkey has a new home and owner but EX2 will still be involved in the production of the races which will take place on 3/28 - 6 hrs of CM, 4/25 - 9 hrs of CM, and 6/13 - 12hrs of CM.

We have several other new highlights and will announce those a little later!

Enjoy this wonderful Holiday season and hope to see you in the New Year.

The 2014 EX2 Race Season is a Wrap!

The 2014 EX2 race season wrapped up yesterday with the running of the final 2014 Fall Backyard Burn Trail Running Race at Prince William Forest Park in Triangle, VA.  Racers were treated to sunny skies and perfect running temps in the mid-50s as they tested themselves on 5 and 10 mile trail running courses that included fun fire roads, streamside single-track, and challenging hills.  It was an awesome day of trail running action and an excellent way to end our 15th season!

THANK YOU to all racers, volunteers, the park authority, and our sponsors for helping to make it all happen!

Results are now posted.  Photos are coming soon.

The fourth race of the 2014 Fall Backyard Burn Trail Running Series was held yesterday at Hemlock Overlook in Clifton, VA.  Racers enjoyed perfectly cool temps and excellent trail conditions as they negotiated a rugged and technical course littered with roots, rocks, and lung busting hills.  Congratulations to everyone who took on the challenge of Hemlock and THANK YOU to all racers, volunteers, the park authority, and our sponsors for helping to make it all happen!

Fun, Fun, Fun at the Windy Wakefield Backyard Burn!

The third race of the Fall Backyard Burn Series was held yesterday at Wakefield Park in Annandale, VA.  Close to 350 athletes endured cold temps and high winds as they negotiated a twisty, fun, and ‘mostly flat’ course.  Thanks to all the racers, volunteers, sponsors, and the park authority for helping to make it all happen.  It was a wonderful day of trail running action!

Results and Series Points Totals are now posted.  Photos are now posted.

Our next FBYB race is on November 16th at Hemlock Overlook in Clifton, VA. This race is already sold out but you can still join the action as a volunteer. Volunteers help with check-in, aid stations, course marshaling, timing, food distribution, course sweeping and course demarking. Times vary from 7am-11:30am and shifts are usually 2-4 hours.  Volunteers receive free food, a cool race t-shirt, $15 off a future EX2 race or $5 off EX2 merchandise, and our sincere appreciation. Plus, volunteering at EX2 races is fun!
