Tyler Wean
Operations
Tyler has been active in the outdoors and adventures since he was very young, visiting the mountains of North Carolina during the summer. There he spent his days hiking and learning to camp in the woods with his father and grandfather. When he was 13, he discovered a summer camp that operated adventure trips for teenagers. Tyler spent four consecutive summers with them learning rock climbing, backpacking, sea kayaking, bicycle touring, and scuba diving. These expeditions took him from Maine and Nova Scotia to Colorado to the Pacific Northwest, and even to the country of Belize. After those experiences, Tyler was enticed to join the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) for a semester trip to Kenya and a summer trip to the Brooks Range in Alaska. These programs, which included mountain climbing, sailing, and kayaking, taught Tyler how to be self-sufficient with a small group in the wilderness and to practice leave-no-trace camping.
Going off to college took Tyler from his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA to Washington DC. He attended The George Washington University and studied engineering, which led him to his current job with Naval Facilities as a Project Manager. It took him a while to discover the outdoor scene in the area, but eventually he found the mountain biking trails and has spent a lot of time on those ever since. During his senior year Tyler decided to resurrect the Outdoor Club at GW. The club organized activities at a local climbing gym, a rafting trip to WV, and mountain biking excursions. After purchasing a road bike, Tyler became involved in the DC Triathlon Club and began to race in road triathlons. While looking for races in the area, he discovered the Xterra racing series and signed up for as many events as he could. This led Tyler to discover EX2 Adventures, with whom he has been racing and volunteering for the last several years. He is very excited and is looking forward to a great 2008 season!!
