Jim Harman
Owner/Race Director
Wilderness instructor, adventure racer, trail runner, mountain biker, soccer player, sports lover, cartographer, geographer, and Founder, Jim Harman, heads EX2 Adventures.
In the early nineties, Jim spent five years making maps for the US military before deciding it was time to try something new. He packed his backpack and ventured off on an around the world, year-long journey that took him from the streets of Paris, to the mountains of Nepal, to the beaches of Australia. After retuning home, Jim took a job as an adventure tour leader. He introduced international travelers to the finer points of American culture all while hiking, camping, whitewater rafting, bungee jumping, and skydiving.
Jim's love for the outdoors and desire for personal challenge led him to the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), the leading outdoor education organization in the world. He took a wilderness expedition course in Alaska and after just one trip Jim knew that he had to work for NOLS. Now, when he can pry himself away from his EX2 commitments, Jim instructs NOLS courses in locations such as the Wyoming, Arizona, and Alaska.
NOLS was not Jim's first foray into outdoor education. For three years, he worked as the Adventure Programs Manager at George Mason University leading students in activities such as backpacking, canoeing, rock climbing, and team development.
Jim created VentureQuest in early 2000 and has not looked back since. EX2 has produced close to 60 adventure sports events in its eight year history and will add 20 more to that list in 2008.
