Cathy Hovis
Operations
Having picked up the running bug back in her Undergrad days at James Madison University, Cathy started competing in marathons and road triathlons. After ten years as a “roadie” she finally saw the light and started hitting the trail and off-road races!
Never one to take the easy route Cathy (and friends) picked a winter triathlon as (their) first “off-road” race at the Wisp Ski Resort. This was a few years back when the Deep Creek Lake region was covered with 57 inches of snow and ice! The most important thing in racing (besides signing up for the race in the first place) is to keep moving and finish. And finish Cathy did. She completed the Run/Snow Tube/XC Ski/Snow Tube/MTB/Snow Tube/Run course in second place in (her age group) and loved every minute of it!
Cathy is in charge of getting the word out about the races, so don’t let her corner you at a party, or she’s liable to chat your ear off! Not that that would be a bad thing... If you do talk to Cathy at a party why don’t you ask her about the 25+ Olympic triathlons, 4 marathons, 1 half iron tri, 2 single day adventure races, 3 off road triathlons or the 1 sprint triathlon that she has competed in over the years.
EX2 offers the chance for everyone to set goals and the opportunity to achieve them. Cathy believes that racing is not about winning, but about challenging yourself. She knows that every racer can be competitive and her goal is to help them meet their goals. That’s why after she helps get everybody checked in on race day, she’ll be strapping on her trails shoes, or swim cap and joining you on the race course.
When not on the trails Cathy works in the financial services industry and travels every chance she gets (because her life needs a little excitement after spending so much time on those boring trails)!
