The 12 Hours of Endurance Duathlon breaks new ground and offers a completely new format to the racing community. This event is really three races in one, allowing athletes to compete in either a 12 hour mountain biking and trail running relay duathlon OR a 6 hour mountain bike relay race OR a 6 hour trail running relay race. The duathlon challenges solos and relay teams of two or three to complete as many laps as possible in a 12 hour period, mountain biking along a 9 mile course from 9am-3pm and trail running on a 5 mile course from 3pm-9pm. Solos and teams of two will also have the opportunity to test their mountain biking OR trail running skills while racing for 6 hours alongside and at the same time as the duathlon racers. This inaugural event will be epic and racers will not want to miss this one!

About Rocky Gap State Park and the Amenities: Rocky Gap has tons to do and is just a 2.5 hour drive from the Washington and Baltimore metro areas. The trail network at Rocky Gap is stellar and the 9 mile mountain biking course and 5 mile trail running course are filled with fun, twisty, and semi-technical singletrack, much of which is right along the lake. On the night of the race (9/20/08), racers will be permitted to camp in the huge grassy pit area which is located right next to two gorgeous beaches. Swimming is permitted in the lake and at that time of year, the water temperature should be perfect for those in-between-lap swims. Showers and bathrooms are also available right near the transition and pit areas. For those that do not want to camp, there is a fancy lodge right on site and plenty of bed and breakfasts located right in Cumberland (less than 10 miles away).
