EX2 Day of Endurance - Schedule & Course Info

10/3/2009 - EX2 Day of Endurance @ Rocky Gap State Park

About the courses: Rocky Gap has a stellar trail network. The 5-mile trail running course includes picturesque lakeside trails, challenging hiking trails, and some wide open grassy field running. The 9-mile mountain biking course consists of twisty and super fun lakeside singletrack combined with fast fire roads, grassy fields, and a small amount of smooth pavement. Athletes of similar mountain biking and trail running skill will be able to complete a mountain biking and trail running lap in about the same amount of time. View Course Map.

About the races: The race will begin at 9am with the 3-hour trail running segment. Both the duathlon and trail running athletes will be running during this time. Trail runners must start their last lap by 11:45am. The mountain biking segment will begin at 12pm sharp. Mountain bikers must start their last lap by 5:30pm. About the amenities: Rocky Gap has tons to do and is just a 2.5 hours from the Washington and Baltimore metro areas. On both Fri 10/2 and Sat 10/3, racers will be permitted to camp in the huge grassy pit area which is located right next to two gorgeous beaches ($10/team/night - pay at check-in). Swimming is permitted in the lake and at that time of year, the water temperature should be chilly but refreshing for those in-between-lap swims. Bathrooms are also available right near the transition and pit areas. For those that do not want to camp, there is a fancy lodge right on site and plenty of bed and breakfasts located right in Cumberland (less than 10 miles away).

Select your pit area starting at 3pm.

5:00 PM - 7:00 PM ANY Racers: Check-In/Packet Pick Up. Turn in liability Waivers. Full team not required for Check-In/Packet Pick Up, BUT Forms for all team members must be turned in to receive race packet. To save time on race morning, it is recommended that duathlon and trail running racers check-in on Friday.

ANY Racers: Check-In/Packet Pick Up. Turn in liability Waivers. Full team not required for Check-In/Packet Pick Up, BUT Forms for all team members must be turned in to receive race packet. To save time on race morning, it is recommended that duathlon and trail running racers check-in on Friday.

8:00 AM - 8:15 AM Race Brief (mandatory for all 9 Hrs of Duathlon and 3 Hrs of Trail Running team captains)
8:15 AM - 8:45 AM

Epunch pick-up and log-in of starting racer (9 Hrs of Duathlon and 3 Hrs of Trail Running Racers Only).

8:50 AM Racers assemble for mass start
9:00 AM Sharp Race Start (9 Hrs of Duathlon and 3 Hrs of Trail Running Racers Only)
7:00 AM - 7:30 PM Pit Area Open, Race, Music, Food Vendor, EX2 Merchandise On Sale
9:30 AM - 10:30 AM 6 Hrs of Mountain Biking Racers Only (if not already checked-in) : Check-In/Packet Pick Up. Turn in liability Waivers. Full team not required for Check-In/Packet Pick Up, BUT Forms for all team members must be turned in to receive race packet.
10:45 AM - 11:00 AM Race Brief (mandatory for all 6 Hrs of Mountain Biking team captains)
11:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Epunch pick-up and log-in of starting racer (6 Hrs of Mountain Biking Racers Only). Bike staging area open to position bikes for LeMans style start.

11:45 AM Cut-off to begin final trail running lap and 9 Hrs of Duathlon racers may begin transitioning to mountain biking laps
11:50 AM Mountain Biking Racers assemble for LeMans style start
12:00 PM Race Start of 6 Hrs of Mountain Biking
12:30 PM FREE Pizza available for 3 Hrs of Trail Running racers and volunteers
1:00 PM approx. Presentation of Awards: 3 Hrs of Trail Running
5:30 PM Cut-off to begin final mountain biking lap
6:15 PM FREE Pizza available for 9 Hrs of Duathlon and 6 Hrs of Mountain Biking racers and volunteers
6:45 PM approx. Presentation of Awards: 9 Hrs of Duathlon and 6 Hrs of Mountain Biking
