The Cranky Monkey Mountain Bike Race Series

Friday, August 22, 2014 @ 6:30pm
The Cranky Monkey at Fountainhead Tomorrow - Currently a 'GO'!

As of now, the Cranky Monkey scheduled for Saturday, 8/23 at Fountainhead is a ‘GO’.

We just finished marking the course and it is in good shape. After some wet weather the past few days, most of the rain missed Fountainhead today. The weather forecasters are calling for a 30-40% chance of showers and thunderstorms overnight and all day tomorrow. The trail system can still absorb a few showers but a steady and or significant rain tonight or tomorrow would require us to postpone the race once again. Unfortunately, this is going to be a game day decision. If the race is postponed, we would try again on Sunday, August 24th, assuming the trails could dry out in time.

Any weather update messages will be posted in this space. If you can’t check the homepage, call 571-251-6034 for a weather message. Any postponement message would be posted by 5am on Saturday or as soon as a decision is made.

Let’s hope Mother Nature is kind to us this time and hope to see you tomorrow.

Three Race Mountain Bike Series.
Your Favorite Local Single-Track.

  • Race #1 - 8/9/14 - Rosaryville State Park, Upper Marlboro, MD
  • Race #2 - 8/17/14 - Quantico Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA
  • Race #3 - 8/23/14 - Fountainhead Regional Park, Fairfax Station, VA (rain date from 7/27/14 original date)

After a year hiatus, the Cranky Monkey MTB Series is back for its 11th edition! We have tweaked the race locations, start times, and classes. The series of cross country format races will start at Fountainhead followed by Rosaryville and the final at Quantico. To beat the summer heat, we have eliminated the 1pm start time. Beginners and juniors will start at 8am and sport, clydesdale, single-speed, and experts will start at 10am or 10:30am. We are also adding beg male 50+ and sport male 50+ classes.

Since 2003, this crowd favorite has challenged thousands of mountain bikers in the local Washington DC metro area. With several classes based on age and/or ability levels, this series is accessible to anyone up for the challenge. Ready to take on the Monkey?
