The Spring BYB Trail Running Series - Schedule & Course Info

Prince William Forest Park – Staging Area near Visitor Center

Course Description:
With 15,000 acres, 37 miles of hiking trails, and 21 miles of biking accessible roads and trails Prince William Forest Park offers the perfect setting for a trail running race.  The largest park in the Washington DC metro area, this hidden gem lies just south of the city.  This one loop racecourse has is it all, from single-track hiking trails, to fire roads, to open areas.  Come experience the natural beauty and tranquility of this amazing park.

Course – 5 mile race (one loop - 5.1 total miles):
0.3m 0.3m Start on road near Visitor Center. Run on road to Crossing Tr. parking lot.
0.3m 0.6m Turn around at Crossing Tr. parking lot and run on road to Visitor Center.
0.2m 0.8m Run through the field to the Laurel Loop trailhead.
0.4m 1.2m Run N. on W. side of Laurel Loop tr. to stream crossing at swinging bridge.
0.2m 1.4m Cross stream and run S. on S. Valley Trail to N. Orenda Road.
Aid Station #1 at intersection of S. Valley Trail and N. Orenda Road (1.4 miles from start)
1.0m 2.4m Run NW on North Orenda Road.
0.1m 2.5m Run NE on Scenic Drive (blacktop).
1.0m 3.5m Run SE on Pyrite Mine Road.
Aid Station #2 at intersection of Pyrite Mine Rd. and S. Valley Trail (2.1 miles from last aid)
0.6m 4.1m Run SW on North Valley Trail to swinging bridge at stream crossing.
0.9m 5.0m Cross stream and then run SE on East side of Laurel Loop Trail.
0.1m 5.1m Run from Laurel Loop trailhead to finish in field near Visitor Center.

 

Course – 10 mile race (one loop - 9.9 total miles):
0.3m 0.3m Start on road near Visitor Center. Run on road to Crossing Tr. parking lot.
0.3m 0.6m Turn around at Crossing Tr. parking lot and run on road to Visitor Center.
0.2m 0.8m Run through the field to the Laurel Loop trailhead.
0.4m 1.2m Run N. on W. side of Laurel Loop tr. to stream crossing at swinging bridge.
0.2m 1.4m Cross stream and run S. on S. Valley Trail to N. Orenda Road.
Aid Station #1 at intersection of S. Valley Trail and N. Orenda Road (1.4 miles from start)
1.0m 2.4m Run NW on North Orenda Road.
0.1m 2.5m Run NE on Scenic Drive (blacktop).
1.0m 3.5m Run SE on Pyrite Mine Road.
Aid Station #2 at intersection of Pyrite Mine Rd. and S. Valley Trail (2.1 miles from last aid)
0.5m 4.0m Cross bridge then run NW on Cabin Branch Mine Trail.
1.4m 5.4m Run NW on N. Valley Trail then Quantico Falls Trail to Lake One Road intersection.
Aid Station #3 at intersection of Lake One Road and N. Valley Trail (1.9 miles from last aid)
0.5m 5.9m Run SW on Lake One Rd. to Mary Bird Branch and Scenic Dr. intersection.
0.5m 6.4m Cross Scenic Drive and take Mary Bird Branch to Old Black Top Road.
0.2m 6.6m Run SE on Old Black Top Road to Turkey Run Ridge Trail.
0.7m 7.3m Run SE on Turkey Run Ridge Trail to intersection of Scenic Drive.
Aid Station #4 at intersection of Scenic Dr. and Turkey Run Ridge Tr. (1.9 miles from last aid)
0.7m 8.0m Continue running SE on Turkey Run Ridge Trail to South Valley Trail.
0.7m 8.7m Run on South Valley Trail to intersection of North Orenda Road.
Aid Station #5 at intersection of N. Orenda Road and S. Valley Trail (1.4 miles from last aid)
0.2m 8.9m Run East on South Valley Trail to swinging bridge at stream crossing.
0.9m 9.8m Cross stream and then run SE on East side of Laurel Loop Trail.
0.1m 9.9m Run from Laurel Loop trailhead to finish in field near Visitor Center.
