EX2 Bushwhacker Adventure Running Race - Rules

Rules:

  • © Photo by Will Ramos Photography
  • There are two segments of this race. Segment 1 runs North, from Fountainhead to Bull Run Marina, and Segment 2 runs South, from Bull Run Marina to Fountainhead.
  • In addition to the finishing checkpoint (Bull Run Marina - Segment 1 and Fountainhead - Segment 2), racers must reach two (2) checkpoints in between the start and finish of the segment. These checkpoints will be located on/next to the Bull Run-Occoquan Trail.
  • Each checkpoint will also double as an aid station and will be stocked with water and Gatorade. First aid kits and emergency communications will also be available at each checkpoint. Checkpoints will be spaced 1.5-2.5 miles from each other.
  • Racers missing checkpoints or finding the checkpoints in the incorrect order will receive a DNF (Did Not Finish).
  • An e-punch timing system will be used in this event. At each checkpoint, you will find an e-punch box and be required to ‘e-punch’. The e-punch timing system requires that racers carry a small electronic key. When inserted into the e-punch box, this electronic key will store the time/location at each checkpoint. The data on your e-punch key will be downloaded at the finish line to provide results, CPs found, the order of CPs found, and your split times. You will receive your e-punch key at check-in. A demonstration of the e-punch system will be provided at check-in.
  • On and/or off-trail travel is permitted.
  • Racers must stay on foot the entire race.
  • Racers must stay wihin park property for the entire race. Park property boundaries will be delineated on the map that EX2 provides.
  • Racers must be familiar with all information outlined on the Bushwhacker webpages of the EX2 Adventures website and any update emails sent prior to race weekend.
  • Race numbers must be worn on the front and must be visible at all times.
  • Outside assistance is only permitted within 50 meters of a checkpoint/aid station.
  • GPS, positioning, or tracking devices are NOT permitted.
  • Portable music players/earphones are NOT permitted.
  • The use of motorized vehicles during the race is NOT permitted.
  • Pets, pacers, and those not officially entered into the event are not permitted on the course.
  • Respect other racers, volunteers, race staff and the environment. No littering.
  • Poor sportsmanship may result in disqualification.
  • SAFETY: Swimming is NOT permitted.
  • SAFETY: Racers must wear close-toed shoes at all times during the race.
  • SAFETY: Racers that drop out of the race MUST check in with race officials.
  • The race director may change the rules at any time.

Relay Team Shuttle Logistics:

  • The non starting racer on each relay team will shuttle their team vehicle from the start at Fountainhead to the race midway point at Bull Run Marina where they will wait for their teammate to finish the first segment of the race, from Fountainhead to Bull Run Marina. When the starting racer arrives at Bull Run Marina, he/she will epunch and then the teammates will exchange vehicle keys and the epunch key. The waiting racer will now be active and begin the second segment of the race, from Bull Run Marina to Fountainhead. The starting racer will drive back to Fountainhead to watch their teammate finish the race. Each team will be provided with driving directions for the 10 minute drive.
