Close to 200 racers enjoyed perfectly warm and sunny summertime weather today as we concluded the Blue Crab Bolt 10K Trail Running Series at Black Hill Regional Park in Boyds, MD. This new venue offered a fun trail system and an idyllic post race setting. It was a wonderful day of trail running action and a fantastic finish to the series! Results are now posted. Photos are now available. Our next event on September 19, 2010 is the Bushwhacker Adventure Running Race, a trail run that adds navigation as a component of the event. The format is simple: racers pick their route to the finish as they run/navigate approximately 10 miles from Hemlock to Fountainhead. Bushwhack or follow a well traveled trail...you choose! The third and final race of the Cranky Monkey Mountain Bike Series was held yesterday at Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, VA. Close to 250 racers in 17 classes battled it out on this technically challenging course riddled with steep hills and rock laden twisty single-track. It was a great day of mountain biking action and a nice end to the series! Congratulations to Duff Durkin for winning the $1000 Bike Lane Shopping Spree Raffle and a big thank you to all who purchased tickets.We raised $530 through this effort. These funds will be donated to MORE (Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts). Results and Series Points are now posted. Photos are coming soon.

Just over 200 racers were treated yesterday to the beauty and challenge of Little Bennett Regional Park. The demanding 10K trail running course included twisty single-track, open meadows, and wooded fire roads. What an awesome park and a wonderful day of trail running action! Thanks to all the racers, volunteers, sponsors, and the park authority for helping to make this race a smashing success. Results are now posted. Photos are now posted. Tuesday August 10, 2010 In Memory of Cecil Funkhouser We are deeply saddened to report that the EX2 family lost racer and friend, Cecil Funkhouser, to a medical emergency at the Cranky Monkey race this past Sunday. Cecil was a longtime EX2 racer and a fixture on local mountain bike trails. He truly embodied the EX2 spirit - never racing for glory, but to simply get out there and have fun. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Cecil's family. He will truly be missed. The viewing will be held from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday, August 11th and the funeral is at 11am on Thursday, August 12th at the Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home in Woodbridge, VA. Cecil's wife, Bobbie, wanted to extend a warm thank you to the EX2 community for the outpouring of support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Cecil's name to the American Heart Association by calling (800) 242-8721, where an account has been established.
