EX2 Gears up for the 9 Hours of Cranky Monkey!
Race or volunteer at the fourth annual 9 Hours of Cranky Monkey Mountain Bike Relay Race held on May 18th at beautiful Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone, MD. Solo racers and teams of 2 or 3 will churn out as many 9-mile laps as they can in a 9 hour period, from 10am-7pm. There is also a 3 hour solo option from 10:20am-1:20pm.
You are going to love this race! Here are some highlights:
- AWESOME 9-mile course with tons of variety
- All daytime laps - no lights needed
- 19 classes to choose from
- 3 hr option for those not able to commit to the full 9 hr race
- Awards go 5 deep in each class and prizes go 3 deep in each class
- Easy 2.5 hour drive from the DC and Baltimore areas
- 10am start time so you can choose to make it a day trip or a weekend excursion
- You can camp in your ‘pit’ area on both Friday and Saturday

Volunteers can choose their shift: 6:30am-9am (check-in), 9am-2pm, 1pm-5pm, or 4pm-8pm (aid stations, course marshals, timing/scoring, and course sweepers). Tons of Fun at the Fountainhead SBYB Final!
Tons of fun was had at Fountainhead yesterday at the fifth and final race of the 2013 Spring Backyard Burn Trail Running Series. Athletes were treated to pleasantly cool temperatures as they negotiated a rock and root filled technical course littered with twisty single-track, steep hills, and wet stream crossings. Congratulations to all racers who took on this challenging course and a big thank you to all the volunteers, sponsors, and the park authority for their wonderful support!

Our next trail running race is the Fountainhead Off-Road Half Marathon and 10K held on June 2nd. This new course is awesome and includes much of the Bull Run-Occoquan Trail (Blue Trail). This race is already 70% full and will likely sell out before race day. So, register today to join in the fun! |

Trail Runners Enjoy Perfect Conditions at the Laurel Hill SBYB!
Over 300 athletes enjoyed cool temperatures, brilliant sunshine, and perfect trail conditions at the fourth race of the Spring Backyard Burn Trail Running Series held yesterday at Laurel Hill Park in Lorton, VA, a 1600 acre park located on the beautiful grounds of the former Lorton Prison complex.
Thanks to all the racers, volunteers, sponsors, and the Fairfax County Park Authority for helping to make this race a wonderful success.

The final race of the SBYB series will be held on May 5th at Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, VA. This race is sold out but you can still join the action as a volunteer. Volunteers help with check-in, aid stations, course marshaling, timing, food distribution, course sweeping and course demarking. Times vary from 7am-11:30am and shifts are usually 2-4 hours. Volunteers receive free food, a cool race t-shirt, $15 off a future EX2 race or $5 off EX2 merchandise, and our sincere appreciation. Plus, volunteering at EX2 races is fun! |

Perfect Spring Weather at the Prince William FP Backyard Burn!
Beautifully sunny skies and perfectly warm temperatures in the mid-60s greeted athletes yesterday for the running of the third race of the Spring Backyard Burn Trail Running Series at Prince William Forest Park in Triangle, VA. Close to 350 racers tested themselves on 5 and 10 mile trail running courses that included fun fire roads, streamside single-track, and challenging hills. It was an awesome day of trail running action!
