XTERRA EX2 at Rocky Gap is Filling Quickly – Register TODAY!

Join EX2 on Sunday, July 12th as we return to gorgeous Rocky Gap State Park for the running of the sixth annual XTERRA EX2 Off-Road Triathlon and Duathlon.

The triathlon course consists of a fun and challenging .75 mile swim in a clear mountain lake, a 14 mile semi-technical mountain biking segment, and a heart pounding 5 mile run.  The duathlon course is the same as the tri course except racers will begin the race with a 3 mile trail run instead of the swim.  Race solo or on a two or three person relay team where each person will complete one or two segments of the race.

Register online today to guarantee yourself a position on the starting line.  Our limit is 400 racers and over 300 have already registered for this event!  Online registration will stay open until full or until midnight on Wed, July 8th, whichever comes first.  If space permits, on-site registration will also be available the day before the race, on Saturday, July 11th.  Race day registration will not be available.

Cranky Monkey Action Descends on Quantico!

Over 300 mountain bikers hammered out lap after lap yesterday at the third annual 12 Hours of Cranky Monkey Mountain Bike Relay Race.  Held on the incredible trails at the Quantico Marine Corps Base, solo racers and teams of two and three tested themselves to see who could complete the most 10.6 mile laps in a 12 hour period, from 8am-8pm.  It was an awesome day of mountain biking action!

Thanks to all the racers, volunteers, sponsors, and spectators for making this day a huge success and a special thanks to Maj.(Ret) Greg Rouillard, Lt. Col Daryl Crane, and Maj. Aaron Angell from the Quantico Mountain Bike Club and Bobby Brown and Gary Gutshall from the Quantico Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) for helping to make it all happen.

Results and Photos are now online.

The Bushwhacker Was AWESOME!

A stormy morning gave way to blue skies and perfectly warm temperatures as a relatively small crowd of adventurous athletes competed in the Bushwhacker Adventure Running Race yesterday.  Athletes ran/navigated their way approximately 10 miles along a beautiful linear park corridor from Hemlock Overlook to Fountainhead Regional Park.  Competitors were required to travel on foot, stay within park boundaries, and visit three checkpoints/aid stations along the way.  Racers loved the ability to follow a well traveled trail but also the freedom to choose their own route, bushwhacking any portion of the ‘course’.  It was a great day!

Thanks to all the racers who accepted the challenge, the volunteers for their tremendous energy, the sponsors for all their support, and the park authorities for their permission to play in their beautiful parks.

Overall and Age Group Results w/ Split Times are now posted along with photos.

Discover a New Type of Adventure This Sunday, 5/31/09!

Join EX2 at the Bushwhacker Adventure Running Race coming up this Sunday, May 31st.  This fun and unique race format amps up the adventure factor of a trail running race by adding navigation as a component of the event.  You pick your route to the finish!  Simply stay on the well marked trail that connects the start and the finish or save time/mileage by bushwhacking off-trail using the clear, accurate, and colorful map that we provide.

The streamside terrain between Hemlock and Fountainhead is stunningly beautiful and it is right in our backyard, in Western Fairfax County only 30 minutes from downtown DC.  The linear 10 mile course includes no overlap or loops and minimal pavement.  Park and take the optional shuttle from the finish to the start and we will even transport your gear bag and car keys from the start to the finish.

Trail runners loved the Bushwhacker in 2008 and you will too. What are you waiting for?  A new type of adventure is right around the corner!

Register Online today!  Online registration closes at midnight on Wednesday, 5/27.  Race day registration WILL be available.
