The Monkey Was Cranky Saturday!

After a very fun and successful beginner/junior 8am race at Fountainhead on Saturday,, the skies opened up and the rain fell, hard.  After a short delay, it was clear that we would not be able to hold the sport/clyd/SS/expert race at 10:30am.  So, we postponed and planned to give it another try today.  But, the forecasted scattered and isolated showers turned 8 hours of steady rain.  There was no chance the course would be ready or safe for a race.  So, the sport/clyd/SS/expert Cranky Monkey race at Fountainhead was cancelled.

We had three potential race dates blocked off our calendar and none of them worked out.  Perhaps this is a sign that this race was not meant to be and the Cranky Monkey is truly living up to its name.

With the above said, a big thank you goes out to all the racers, volunteers, sponsors, and the park authority for helping to make it all happen.

Results and Series Points are now posted.

Quantico Challenges Cranky Monkey Racers!

Athletes were treated to unseasonably cool temps at second race of the Cranky Monkey Mountain Bike Series held yesterday at the Quantico Marine Corps Base in Quantico, VA.  Over 150 mountain bikers hammered it out on a fun and challenging course which included twisty single-track, log ramps, long fire roads, and quad burning hills.  It was an excellent day of mountain bike racing!

Thanks to all the racers, volunteers, and sponsors for making it a great day and a special thanks to Jim Long, John Paul Cooley, and Brandon Farley from the Quantico Mountain Bike Club for getting the course in top shape and to Gary Gutshall and Bobby Brown from Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) for all of their logistical support.

Results and Series Points are now posted.

Photos are coming soon.

The final Cranky Monkey race will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, VA.  The trails at Fountainhead are awesome so you don’t want to miss this one.  Register today!

The Cranky Monkey Returns!

The 11th edition of the Cranky Monkey Mountain Bike Series kicked off yesterday at the Rosaryville State Park in Upper Marlboro, MD.  Under sunny skies and warm temperatures, racers battled it out on a twisty, flat, fast, and fun course.  It was an excellent day of mountain biking action!

Thanks to all the racers, volunteers, and sponsors for helping to make it all happen and a special thanks to Tom Welsh, the MORE trail liaison at Rosaryville for helping to get the course in race condition.

Results are now posted.  Photos are coming soon.

The final two races of the series will take place on August 17th at the Quantico Marine Corps Base in Quantico, VA and on August 23rd at Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, VA.  Register online today to save $10 and to guarantee your spot on the starting line!

Come race the Cranky Monkey!

Cranky Monkey Courses, Pre-Rides, and Pay Dirt!

The 11th running of the Cranky Monkey Mountain Bike Series is upon us.  Here are some updates:

- Fountainhead Rescheduled:  Mother Nature unleased a very untimely 2 hour rain this past Sunday at Fountainhead, requiring us to postpone the start of the series.  The rain date is Saturday, Aug 23rd and will now be the series finale.  All pre-registered racers were offered a full credit or a full refund and registration was re-opened.  Sign up today!

- Rosaryville Course:  The Rosaryville race on August 9th will now kick-off the series.  This 11 mile course includes the 9 mile perimeter trail and the 2 mile interior trail, run in a clockwise direction.  This course is super-fast and super-fun and includes twisty single-track and very few hills.  Pre-ride whenever you like following the course map. Here’s a link to the current start list.

- Quantico Pre-Rides:  I rode the challenging trails at Quantico this morning and they are in AWESOME shape - kudos to John-Paul Cooley, Jim Long, and the Marines at Quantico for taking such great care of these trails.  Here is a link to the course map.  Riding on the incredible trails at Quantico is special because civilian access is ONLY permitted on race day and on official pre-ride dates.  The pre-rides are scheduled for Sat, Aug 2nd at 9am and Sun, Aug 10th at 9am.  Enjoy the ride!  Here’s a link for details

- Pay-dirt Day:  Help maintain the trails and earn 5 CM series points at the same time.  Volunteer at the MORE Cranky Monkey pay-dirt trail maintenance day on 8/2 at Rosaryville.  Pay-dirt points could be just enough to push you into an award!

Cranky Monkey craziness is about to being.  Come along for the ride!
