The second race of the Spring Backyard Burn Trail Running Series is coming up this Sunday, March 144h at Hemlock Overlook in Clifton, VA.   This beautiful course consists mostly of rocky and root strewn hiking trails (including the Bull Run Occoquan Trail), old dirt roads, and open fields. Competitors will run along Historic Bull Run, up some challenging hills, and across a few streams.  Sightings of deer, beaver, turkey, osprey and great blue heron are not uncommon in this 425 acre park. This race is FULL and registration is no longer available but you can still enjoy the day and help make it all happen by volunteering at this event.  Volunteers help at check-in, aid stations, and timing/scoring.  They also help as course marshals and with food distribution.  Volunteers receive FREE food, a FREE t-shirt, and $15 off a future EX2 race or $5 off EX2 merchandise.  Plus, volunteering at EX2 races is fun!      Click here to view the start list for the race at Hemlock this weekend. Mother Nature provided wonderfully warm weather yesterday as we ushered in the 2010 EX2 season with the running of the Spring Backyard Burn at Wakefield Park in Annandale, VA.  After months of cold and snowy weather, spirits were high as racers dusted off the cabin fever to test themselves on a 5.1 mile or 9 mile ‘alternate course’.  The fast and fun alternate course avoided the snowy trails and included twisty streamside single-track, wet stream crossings, and a few switchback hills.  It was a great day of trail running action!  Results are now posted.  Photos are now online. Our next Spring Backyard Burn Trail Running Race is this Sunday, March 14th at Hemlock Overlook in Clifton, VA.  This race is already sold out but there are still some spots left in the final race of the series which will be held on April 11th at Prince William Forest Park in Triangle, VA.  Register today to hold your position on the starting line.

EX2 wishes you a new year filled with good health, great fun, and excellent experiences – and we can help you make that happen!  With 21 action-packed races planned for 2010, no matter what your sport or ability level, we have you covered.  Trail running, mountain biking, adventure racing, off road triathlon…EX2 has races for everyone.  Registration for all 2010 events is NOW OPEN! This year we are bringing back 18 of our 2009 events, introducing three new races to our lineup, and making some other exciting changes and additions.  Some of these include:  Schaeffer Farms in Germantown, MD will now be home for one of our Cranky Monkey mountain bike races. Very cool! Our summertime Blue Crab Bolt 10K Trail Running Series in Montgomery County, Maryland is expanding with a new race at Black Hill Regional Park in Boyds, MD and the addition of a new points system.    Beautiful Rocky Gap State Park will play host to our new 9 Hours of Cranky Monkey Mountain Bike Relay Race on May 15th.  Racers are going to LOVE Rocky Gap for its awesome trail network, fantastic facilities, and gorgeous lake views. Both the Bushwhacker Adventure Running Race and the Rocky Gap Adventure Race are being moved from the Spring to the Fall.  The Rocky Gap AR has also been lengthened to 22-28 miles of paddling, trekking, and mountain biking, taking 4-8 hours to complete. A new 10K course option has been added to the EX2 Off-Road Half Marathon.  Many of our races have SOLD OUT for the past several years so, register today to save money and guarantee your spot on the starting line.
